Homes & Interiors
Creatives, connect to texture, within their surroundings and then the subconscious is the starting point. Once creatives are engaged with the client's dreams and aspirations, it ignites the passion and the vision that grows throughout the project.

ice has historically had connections to metals and organic materials that are used aesthetically and often structurally to weave into the interior and exterior of projects.

Raw & Intuitive Design

Texture, it starts the cycle and pulls the creativity into projects. It can be a pebble or fortified wall, gestures of paint and hues on a canvas. It often resides in the Studio as a stimulus.

Weaving together, materials & textures comes from an intuitive energy, not a learned skill, it just..., works.

MODERN BEACH COTTAGE

Naramata Wine Country Beach Cottage. A rare creative opportunity to work with like minded sporty fit clients that happened to be friends. They acquired a 1971 bungalow nestled beside Naramata creek and facing Lake Okanagan, a pristine setting for JAMOBOHO Japanese Modern Bohemian Beach Cottage. The wishlist was based upon healthy activities and time with friends & family indulging in organic culinary feasts, wine pairing, conversation
board games and cozy moments with the dogs by the fire.
Crisp modern New York Loft Style living. Two Story dark walnut entry with repeating walnut accents throughout, combined with woven metal railing details, hand forged fixtures and architectural salvage woven into the fabric of this YYC home.

The Kitchens and Bathrooms feature herringbone tile installations, hand pitched stone and stark materials woven in unison. Raw design by ice.
A classic cottage became an "Industrial Cottage" in 2006, nick named the "Surf Shack". Janet Watson of ice reinterpreted classic victorian design, utilizing rusted metals, carbon fibre, hand cut masonry veneers, architectural salvage and recycled T&G wall systems. Often with her own hands, she reclaimed the original V groove walls, cut, chipped and hauled masonry, resurrected point loads to create a home for her, and her son Griffin. A home abundant in history and old cottage charm with an organic energy came to fruition.

An 80's Ranch bungalow, underground streams, water from record rainfall and high winds of almost 100 years, a challenging site indeed, the preverbal diamond in the rough. Thankfully the creative was anchored by the fixed assets, a view to the Rockies, architectural salvage procured by ice and a historic signature by Janet Watson, with timbers and industrial details. A passion to utilize her vision of a warehouse dormer concept allowed for a 60' long spine, 30' high to carry the complex vaults, it created the intersection for the entire home and the energy within.

"Janet Watson is one of the most talented people I know. She thinks about things in a different "box" than most of us are accustomed to; in fact Janet has no BOX. She is brave and at the same time, she is acutely aware of budget constraints and is more than willing to pull back on the creative flare if a client is not ready or does not have the resources. That being said, once the idea is there - the resources often have a way of finding funding because the ideas are so unique".

Janet is a blessing to work with - you will find her challenging your assumptions about almost everything. Beware: Be ready to leap into a different "BOX"

This design by ice incorporating the Warehouse Style Dormer, acts as the spine that intersects the massive timber trusses and point loads that allow for these 14', barn doors procured by ice. This stunning view that evolved from the 8' ceilings to the 27' vaulted Great Room featured in WL was stimulated by the barn doors from Provence FR, sourced by through Uniquities of YYC.

IDEA MACHINE engaged Janet
as an interior designer to redesign the
ergonomics and image of our graphic
design studio. Our office image and
functionality of our workspace are critical to the success of our company
and brand. As with any company we also had to be conscious of the associated costs of such a large project. Janet was able to meet our needs on both fronts and the end result is a workspace our designers take pride in and our clients continue to compliment."
